ENGLEWOOD LIBRARY TO HOLD ARTS PROGRAM FOR KIDS
The Englewood Public Library is once again the recipient of a grant for the ninth consecutive year from The Community Chest of Englewood, Englewood Cliffs and Tenafly to fund quality arts programs delivered by Arts Horizons to the youths in Englewood and Englewood Cliffs.
The program is free and open to all Englewood and Englewood Cliffs youths.
An enriched Englewood Public Library's 2013 Summer Youth Arts Program, titled Cultures Around the World, includes a variety of programs.
The six-week program meets from 3 to 5:30 p.m. every Thursday, starting on July 11 and ending on Aug. 15 in the library's Mackay Room. Through creative ventures, the students will travel around the world participating in interactive and engaging hands-on workshops that highlight visual arts and music from Latin America and Africa.
World percussionist Hector Morales will introduce participants to percussion instruments from Latin America and engage them in collaborative pieces of Latin music.
African artist Marisa Mussa works with participants to create wearable art and decorative jewelry from Africa, using supplies and objects representative of African cultures.
Kit Sailer will work with students creating a "Self Portrait Mural Quilt." Each child will create a self-portrait on an 8'' x 10" canvas that will also express their heritage. Each individual piece will then be joined together to make a mural quilt that will be displayed at the library, located at 31 Engle St. in Englewood.
No registration is required. For more information, call 201-568-2215 or email englewoodreference@englewoodlibrary.org.
