Happy Birthday to our Founder, Mr. John Devol

  • Jan 15, 2026

Happy Birthday to our founder, John Devol! We celebrate evolving Mr. Devol's vision of transforming lives through the arts for over 45 years!

Arts Horizons was founded in 1978 by John Devol, trumpet player, music educator, and parent. John played in the orchestra of A Chorus Line for the entire 15-year run of the show, and, as he sat in the pit night after night, he realized the importance of bringing quality music to children. He got together with fellow Broadway musicians and formed Festival Brass, a lively, interactive music assembly program that taught students about the brass family of instruments. In 1995, Festival of Music became Arts Horizons, a full-service arts-in-education organization.  (Pictured Left: Mr. Bob McGrath of Sesame Street and Founder Mr. John Devol).

We were pleased hold An Evening of Art and Creativity this past May to celebrate the anniversary of Arts Horizons. Pictured below, Mr. Ramzi El Edlibi was presented with the John Devol Teaching Artist Award for celebrating extraordinary talent and service to the public in decades of commitment to Arts Horizons.  (Pictured Right: Mr. John Devol and Mr. Ramzi El Edlibi)

On behalf of the more than 10 million people touched by the Arts, we thank you, John Devol, and wish you a very happy birthday!
