Englewood Library’s First “Glee Club” Ends on A High Note!

For six Thursdays this summer, children of Englewood had an opportunity to participate in a “Glee Club” as part of the Englewood Library’s Book Club and Summer Arts Series provided by Arts Horizons and funded by the Community Chest of Englewood, Tenafly and Englewood Cliffs. Arts Horizons Teaching Artists Gail Lou and Christine Sampson collaborated teaching vocal, music and choreography to students of all ages and abilities. Gail Lou, an Englewood resident is an experienced educator, vocalist, musician and musical director. Sampson, a Bergen county resident, has appeared in commercials for television and performed with many artists as well as national and international tours with the NBA.

Each week students were introduced to new dance steps and learned classical Broadway and contemporary songs which they practiced and performed the following week. Throughout the six weeks, they were then able to combine dance steps together with the songs and music to create the library’s first summer “Glee Club”, all resulting in a rousing culminating performance at the end of the session.

In the more than 80 years since its formation, The Community Chest has supported local nonprofit organizations in the Englewood area. Each year,  The Chest raises funds and allocates them to agencies that have demonstrated the capacity to provide services to local citizens. The Community Chest also provides other coordinating and planning services in our communities, serving as a bridge between agencies and organizations and investing in the stability and quality of our service network.
