La Piccola Opera performs abridged versions of three widely known and loved operas. Students will want to sing for days after seeing professional performers in these mini-operas. The shows feature vibrant costumes, exciting staging, theatrical lighting, English narration and piano accompaniment. The lively performances offer a delightful way to introduce young audiences to the world of opera.

Carmen by Bizet-Grades 6-12
Carmen is a timeless operatic tragedy by Georges Bizet that takes place in Seville, Spain. It is a love story between a gypsy girl named Carmen, a Toreador named Escamillo, and a soldier named Don Jose, sung in its original French with English narration. Carmen includes the following arias: “Habanera”, “The Toreador Song”, and “The Flower Song.”
La Traviata by Verdi-Grades 6-12
La Traviata is the true story of Marie Duplessis, the heroine of Dumas fils’ La Dame aux Camelias and Verdi’s La Traviata set in Paris France. This is the tragic story of the heroine Violetta and the sacrifice that she made for her love of Alfredo. The opera will be sung in Italian with English narrations.
The Barber of Seville by Rossini-Grades K-12
The Barber of Seville is a comedy by Gioachino Rossini that takes place in Seville, Spain during the 1700’s. It is the story of Rosina, the beautiful young ward of the older Don Basilio, who wishes to marry her. She does not want to marry him, so in steps Figaro, the barber and matchmaker of the town, to help Rosina win the heart of Count Almaviva (who is younger and much more handsome than Basilio). The Barber of Seville includes the following arias: “Largo al Factotum”, “Una Voce Poco Fa”, and “Ecco Ridente in Cielo.”

Specially written by a well know New York composer to introduce young children to the opera.

Marjorie Kahn (Soprano) debuted at Venice’s Grand Teatro La Fenice as a Blumenmadchen then sang the role of Xanthe at Carnegie Hall with Opera Orchestra of NY, at Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera as Norina, at Cagliari’s Teatro Lirico as Fiakermilli and the New York Grand Opera in the roles of Oscar, Musetta and Violetta. Ms. Kahn was a winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, a finalist in both the Enrico Caruso Voice Competition and McAllister Awards Opera Competitions. Recently she was featured on Channel 5 Good Day NY morning news program.
